Healthy snack. Leftover apples. A little maple syrup. Some cinnamon. So simple. So many possibilities. Such goodness. Here is my Clean Apple Cinnamon Butter…one doesn’t go without the other in my house!
You know about that time when you want something sweet it is either after dinner when you have nothing in the house, or it is after you get home from the grocery store and you had done so good and not bought anything horrible. Well that is how I was feeling after I got home from the store. Virtuous and healthy.
I had a few left over apples that I was going to eat with some peanut butter but then changed my mind. I wanted something a little different. I thought maybe making my own applesauce, but with applesauce it is either go big or go home…meaning, make a huge batch or don’t make it at all. I LOVE homemade applesauce. So much so that last year that is what I told my mom I wanted for my birthday.

I decided to try my hand at apple butter. I went perusing websites and found the easiest how-to guide on EatingWell magazines website. It didn’t really cover apples, just in a general sense, but it was still the easiest instructions I found. I added my own twist to it and it turned out so good! This was so much simpler than I ever thought butter making would be! And no churn needed!

I peeled and chopped my apples. Added the maple syrup, cinnamon, lemon juice and a half cup of water. Bring it to a boil then turn the burner down to a steady simmer. It took about 40 minutes to leach and boil all the liquid out. I don’t have a masher, so I broke out my handy-dandy food processor and whipped it out. I am so proud of myself that it turned out right! It tastes like rich applesauce but is awesome on a piece of toast!
